John P. Dollar was born in Des Moines, Iowa, on May 11, 1947.

Mr. Dollar graduated from the University of Iowa with a Liberal Arts Degree in 1969. He served in the U.S. Army as an Infantry lieutenant from 1969 to 1971, including service in Vietnam.

He graduated from the University of Iowa Law School in 1974 with distinction. He has been in practice in Des Moines for over 30 years. He is engaged in a general law practice.
