Steven C. Despotovich was born in Ames, Iowa, on April 3, 1958. He was admitted to the Iowa Bar in 1983, the U.S. Tax Court in 1984, and the U.S. Supreme Court in 1992. Steve completed his undergraduate degree in 1979, earning a B.S. in Business Administration from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. He also completed the M.B.A. program at Drake prior to receiving his Juris Doctorate in 1983 from the Drake University Law School. In 1988 he earned both his Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) and Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) degrees from The American College in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. Since 1993 Steve has also been licensed as a Certified Financial Planner (CFP) by the College of Financial Planning in Denver, Colorado.
Steve is currently serving as an Industry Arbitrator for FINRA Regulation, Inc. He is a past member of the Grievance Commission of the Supreme Court of Iowa. In addition to being past-President of both Des Moines Estate Planners and the Central Iowa Chapter of the International Association of Financial Planning (now the Financial Planning Association), he has taught at the University level, been nationally published and has lectured at numerous locations throughout the country, Canada and the Caribbean. Steve is a current Board Member of Easter Seals of Iowa as well as on the Professional Advisory Board of the Greater Des Moines Community Foundation. He is a past Board Member of Homes of Oakridge. Steve is admitted to the American, Iowa State, and Polk County Bar Associations as well as the U.S. Supreme Court and the U.S. Tax Court.
Aside from spending time with his wife Toni and their daughter, Samantha, Steve enjoys touring on his motorcycle. Steve is also a Certified Barbeque Judge by the Kansas City Barbeque Society. Contact
